Artist Statement

Throughout my career as a sculptor, I have lived, taught and studied the architecture of Spain, Italy, France, and Ireland, looking for clues and insight from the fragments left behind. My creative impulse and curiosity has found expression in clay sculptural reliefs…most recently a fusion of Moorish and classical forms that are multi-fired with slips, stains, underglazes, and dry textural glazes.  I apply color meticulously - by sponge, brush or spray - to capture the light, textures, and colors of ancient walls, arches and other architectural forms from history, and from my imagination.  Through these multilayered works I seek to evoke the depth and mystery of the human experience.
