Artist Statement

 

My abstracts are a process of exploration with color, shape, texture, and blending. There are no messages or hidden agendas other than to see where the journey takes me. I see my surroundings in blocks of color and shapes, interesting patinas and surfaces which always seem to make their way into my work.  I do, of course, have an idea or a bit of a plan at the outset and my paintings evolve from there. I work with acrylics and acrylic medium to produce layers of thick and thin color, washed or scrumbled over rice paper and crackle medium for texture. My abstracts include lines that are straight, curved or merely gestures of the brush as an overlay of the color beneath. Surfaces are wiped, dripped and spattered all to create my idea of abstract expressionism.
