Amy Alwood
Artist
Statement
As a teenager, I spent a
large portion of my high school career doodling on my class
notes and working in the art wing on various projects. I was an
avid illustrator, sculptor, singer and guitar player. I knew I
loved looking at art and participating in it, but when
graduation from high school arrived, I never considered being an
art major in college. So when the fall of that year rolled
around, I chose to study veterinarian medicine and then later,
biology.
A few years
into my schooling I realized that I was missing the joy of
creating and appreciating art. Although I enjoyed biology and
math as well, they seemed to only satisfy one part of me. Over a
period of a year or two I slowly made the decision to take the
leap from biology to art.
I enrolled at OSU in the
fall of 2004 and quickly understood that I was exactly where I
needed to be as a sense of rebirth enveloped me. I knew I wanted
to pursue art and to do so with honesty, integrity and hard
work. Unsure of a singular discipline, I trusted that if I did
what was in front of me that my path in the realm of art would
unveil itself.
Having graduated
from college and begun my career as an artist my goals have
remained the same. I intend to respect and appreciate the
creative force within me, to not alter or censor its
manifestations, and to pass on the benefits of an inherently
natural and healthful act called “making art”. |
