I build paintings, piece by piece, and often layer upon layer - just as one would build a home or a city.  I use materials that are found, discarded, and deemed of little or no value.  They are the leftovers of something before, and something bigger.  They are fragments of a story, or a place, bits of color and shape. They have a history -

Just as a place has a history.  The built world that surrounds me is constantly changing, growing, and in constant repair and disrepair.  The old and the new lie side by side, and their colors and patterns mingle.  In places both near and far, I sit in the space within the city buildings, and in the space without.  This is where I find myself – gathering images and thoughts, and pieces of each place…and making paintings.
